Meaning Of The Song
CHIBANGU WAYA (CHIBANGU IS GONE) This song was sung in memory of a Congolese guitarist Chibangu who used to play "Kalindula" music in Zambia in a group called "The Mulemena Boys". After a severe illness, he returned to his family in Likasi, Province of Katanga, DR Congo, where he died and was buried in 1984.His Zambian comrades from the "Mashabe Band" then made this song in the Chibemba language: "Chibangu Waya (Chibangu Is Gone)” as a farewell. Note that the Chibemba / Kibemba language is spoken in Zambia and the DRC. In short, the comrades of the late Chibangu sing:" We have mourned Chibangu all night until dawn. Chibangu has gone where people do not return: to the cemetery. Then at the end the singers wonder how they were going to do to get to see the place where Chibangu rests, in LIKASI "
